Serial number 840 963This version 2 M3 is without question the cleanest Leica I have ever owned. It also has one of the most accurate shutters that I have ever seen. What else could you expect? I originally aquired this camera from Luigi Crescenzi in Rome (Ebay alias: Umana), One of the world's most respected Leica collectors and experts. Tested on a Kyoritsu EF-500 digital shutter analyzer all speeds were within 10% and side to side timing was equally good. The viewfinder alignment and calibration are perfect. The inspection and testing was done by Manfred Mueller, the finest Leica authorized technician in Northern California. It features the dual dot rewind, the hollow film counter triangle and early shutter speed sequence, ball detent film door and the ceramic pressure plate appropriate to this model. Ghester Sartorious, in his book "Identifying Leica Cameras" rates this variant as "R-" (fairly rare). There are no dings or scratches but there is one very light "rub" on the bottom plate. The original Vulcanite was crudely patched in two places so it has been professionally replaced with a simulated brown snake skin of real leather custom cut by the well known author and Leica restoration expert Aki Asahi of Japan.
